900 police to crackdown on crime in Bristol in biggest ever Operation Relentless

Around a thousand police officers will be meeting criminals head-on today in a massive crackdown on crime in Bristol.

Following dawn briefings at Police Headquarters at 4am, officers launched their biggest ever Operation Relentless - a day of action against criminals wanted for offences ranging from burglary to violent crime.

Police have also targeted drug dealers and the second-hand goods market with a series of warrants across Bristol.

A specialist team is currently running an Automatic Number Plate Recognition operation with the council's CCTV department, aimed to stop criminals travelling across the city in their tracks.
Officers will be also visiting anti-social behaviour hot spots as well as undertaking crime reduction work with elderly and vulnerable people.
Assistant Chief Constable Anthony Bangham, said the operation "was about keeping people in Bristol safe through visible high-impact policing.
He added: "This is the largest Operation Relentless day of action since its inception in 2005 which reinforces the force's commitment to stamp out crime and all those involved in it."
Incidents will be livestreamed on the Avon and Somerset Police website throughout the day to give an insight into what goes on to keep people living in Bristol safe. You can also follow the operation on Twitter using the hashtag #oprelentless. Watch this space for further reports and updates from our reporters later today.
