Hot-shot Grimes puts Cricketers back on top

MATT Grimes smashed a hat-trick as Brislington Cricketers returned to the top of the Senior Division following a 6-2 romp at Bristol Barcelona.

Dan Cannon and Chris Williams were on target for Barca in the early stages before the new leaders took control with further goals from Will Ollis (2) and Russ Simmons, whose father, Dave, was a former player-manager of the Cricketers.

"Barcelona have a good side and we had a hard game," said Grimes, who is club secretary.

Aidan Tayton hit a hat-trick and his brother, Aaron, weighed in with a double as Eden Grove boosted their hopes by hammering struggling Coalpit Heath 8-1. Daniel Hunt (2) and Ben Jarvis were also on the scoresheet on a miserable day for Heath.

Shirehampton Reserves lost ground following a 2-1 defeat at lowly Roman Glass St George A, whose scorers were Chris Grant and Mike Kennedy.

Nicholas Wanderers Reserves took a step nearer safety with a 1-0 home win in the basement battle against Longwell Green A. A fifth- minute goal from Mike Farley settled the outcome.

Warmley Saints stretched their lead to seven points at the head of Division I thanks to a 3-0 home success against AEK Boco Reserves. Sam Andrews and Phil Anstey put Warmley two up at the break and Adam O'Brien completed the win with a penalty.

Stockwood Wanderers slumped to a surprise 2-1 home defeat to strikes by Dale Attwell and Danny Young for Mendip Reserves, Ricky Hemmings earned Hambrook a 1-1 draw with Talbot Knowle United, and Mark Ritchin hit both goals for Rangeworthy in a 4-2 home defeat by Seymour Reserves.

Portville Warriors took over the box seat in Division II from De Veys, who were on GFA Intermediate Cup duty, with a 3-0 win at Winterbourne A thanks to goals from Sam Moore, Sam Jones and Van Papantoniou.

Stanton Drew crushed Fry Club A 6-0 with goals from Rob Bailey (2), Jason Lee, John Daniels, Shane Davies and James Maby.

Brad Finch grabbed the only goal for Pucklechurch at home to Iron Acton Reserves, while Chris Galleon and Shaquil Thompson earned Nicholas Wanderers A a 2-2 draw with Bradley Stoke Town.

Division III leaders Lebeq Reserves won 2-0 at Roman Glass St George B thanks to a double from Sheldon Sawyers, while Hartcliffe Reserves remain five points behind after Jacob O'Donnell (2) and Jay Griffiths sealed a 3-0 victory at Olveston Reserves.

Totterdown Reserves kept up the pressure on the top two by beating Hambrook Reserves 5-3 with goals from Rob Neal (3), Mike Withey and Josh Docherty. Steve Thomas, Colin Smyth and Callum Martin replied for the home side.

James Prosser and Dave White netted for Greyfriars Reserves, 2-0 winners against Bristol Barcelona Reserves, while a goal from Mark Hughes earned Soundwell Victoria a 1-1 draw at home to Henbury A.

Ed Searle hit a hat-trick as Warmley Saints Reserves continued their promotion push in Division V with a 5-0 victory over Bendix. Ben Bushell and Matt Summers were also on the scoresheet.

Dave Davies netted for Seymour A in a 4-1 at home defeat by Crosscourt Reserves, whose scorers were Kerry Earrey, Dave Kerton, Charlie Harvey and Rob Pring.

Will Morgan grabbed a hat-trick for Oldland Abbotonians A but still finished on the losing side – 4-3 at Iron Acton Reserves. Sam Wintle (2), Jason Goodfield and Jordan Palmer netted for Iron Acton.

Goals from Andy Hurrel and Sam Chilcott for Bradley Stoke Reserves were cancelled out by a double from Gary Coles for Roman Glass St George Colts in a 2-2 draw.

Greyfriars A went top in Division VI with a 3-1 win at Cribbs Friends Life B thanks to Neal Edwards, Ryan Mills and Shaun Morris.

Dave Cox (2) and Jack Philpott gave Old Sodbury Reserves a 3-0 win over Nicholas Wanderers B, while goals from Sorren Schoppmeier (2), Mike Fry (2), Graham Marshal and Sam Clever saw Bradley Stoke A beat Oakland Reserves 6-1 to move off the bottom of the table.
